France’s economy saw a slight contraction in the final quarter of 2024, according to a recent report from the national statistics agency, INSEE.
The modest downturn followed the fading economic boost from the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Preliminary data from INSEE showed a 0.1% decline in GDP during the last three months of 2024, after remaining steady with a 0.4% rise in the third quarter.
The Paris Olympics significantly contributed to third-quarter growth, driven by increased sales of household services, tickets, and broadcasting rights.
However, as the games concluded, their positive economic impact diminished, leading to a slight dip in the fourth quarter.
